How how the Pills are Growing

On Tuesday evening I watch a program on SBS television called The Cutting Edge with a lengthy investigation into childhood mental illness.  doctors Diagnosing Children as young 2 and 4 years old with Bi-Polar and ADHD and prescribing medication for these kids which are Adult medications with no idea as to the dosage or side effects these drugs would have on the growing brain. Medications such as including anti psychotic, anti depressants, sleeping pills etc to four year olds…

To my mind this is ridiculus and is playing with fire.  A small childs brain is being wired,
it is learning and developing, growing and maturing, throwing a cocktail of drugs at such a young age is bond to cause problems later in life and develope a dependence on the drugs.
I do acknowledge that there cases where these can be of benefit to children who are
demonstrating signs which are not the usual, children with brain damage and confirmed
mental illness, however prescribing these for kids whose behaviour is naughty,
a bit sad, hyperactive, fidgetty, prone to temper tantrums and outbursts etc is just horrifying.

The widespread use of drugs such as Ritallin is being shown to be a crutch in a lot of instances
Treatment of children whose behaviour is less than satisfactory at home or at school does
not warrant a lengthy and prolonged course of drugs.
A simple course in behaviour modification sometimes goes a lot further.
If you look at diet you can often find the answers you are looking for
rather doping kids up for life.

what do you think?
dope them up and sedate or find a natural way, through diet and vitamins….?

The sensitive!

In todays world are constantly bombarded with artificial this and manmade that.  The cocktail of chemicals filling our system is huge. We eat, breath, obsurb, it really doesnt matter how we come into contact with them, our bodies will still take it in and in the case of some heavy metals accumulate them within bodies for later….

How can people think that just because we are human, we are some how immune to the effects of polutants in our environment, recent studys are finding high concentrations of fertilizer in drinking water and air can effect a mans reproductive ability,  Women who live in areas with high vehicle traffic have smaller babies than those in more rural areas regardless of diet or any other factor,  the increasing numbers of allergy related illnesses through out the world is growing at outrageously fast rates.

Did you know that some treated pine is treated with Arsenic thats why it is green and we are told not to burn it, I beat your kids are playing on the back deck or pine playgym right now, the soap you clean yourself with is made using Caustic soda, yes it is caustic, and the antibacteria soaps and cleaning agents so many use to kill germs in your home can actually cause a large number of allergies and illness by not allowing our childrens immune system to contact and Identify them while it is programed to….?  In fact there are so many products out there which we believe are designed to help us and make healthy that can cause the very problem we were trying to avoid.

So is this current wave of illnesses, allergies, autoimmune responses

Natural accuring factors or is this of our own making?

Is this a result of our reliance on chemicals and polutants?

Or do you think otherwise….

Is this true?

I know the arguement of bottle vs tap water but this is a new one on me..

bottled-water-791428gif.jpg

I recieved this yesterday and am still trying to find if there is any truth to it…

Bottled water in your car…..very dangerous, woman!!!!
This is how Sheryl Crow got breast cancer. She was on the Ellen show and
Said this same exact thing. This has been identified as the most common
Cause of the high levels in breast cancer, especially in Australia .

A friend whose mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The
Doctor told her: women should not drink bottled water that has been left in a Car.

The doctor said that the heat and the plastic of the bottle have certain
Chemicals that can lead to breast cancer. So please be careful and do
Not Drink bottled water that has been left in a car, and, pass this on to
All the women in your life. This information is the kind we need to know and
Be aware and just might save us!!!! The heat causes toxins from the plastic
To leak into the water and they have found these toxins in breast tissue.
Use a stainless steel Canteen or a glass bottle when you can!!!

So in the interest of public health and questioning the things around us….

Does anyone know for sure please do tell

or is it a ‘well dont do it just in case’ sort of deal?

Water Vs Coke

My thanks To Ronni who sent me this little Gem

Let me know what you reckon…

WATER

class.jpeg

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

(Likely applies to half the world population.)
#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.
#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as 3%.
#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs

for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.
#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.
#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term

memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.
#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
you should drink every day?

COKE

coke.jpeg

#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.
#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.
#3.To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the ‘real thing’ sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china.
#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5.To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.
#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix
with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
#8…To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1. the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.
#2.To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3.The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

Chemical free Kitchen

lemon-squeeze-small4.jpg

Did you know you can have a chemical free Kitchen without the horrors of a messy, smelly kitchen and it is very easy and the best part is it is cheap.

My kitchen cleaning cupboard contains:

Lemon Juice

White vinegar

Bi Card Soda

Vanilla essence

These are my basic cleaning tools.

Lemon Juice is great for a multitude of problems around the house.

  • Countertops, including laminate and stone Squeeze lemon juice onto the counter and, using the lemon as a scrubber, work the juice over the counter, leaving it on stains until they are removed/ Rinse and dry the surface.
  • Microwaves Heat a bowl of water and sliced lemons in the microwave for 30 seconds to a minute. Wipe out the microwave with a soft cloth. Not only will the microwave be clean, it will smell great.
  • Brass Dip a lemon wedge in salt and massage into the brass until the tarnish is buffed off . Wash and dry.
  • Copper Squeeze a lemon until it’s juicy, dip it in salt and rub it over the copper surface. The citric acid in the lemon has an immediate cleaning effect on the copper, leaving a brilliant shine on the surface. Rinse and dry.
  • Chrome Rub a cut lemon over the chrome, rinse and buff with a soft cloth or paper towel.
  • Wooden breadboards Squeeze on lemon juice and rub it in. Let it sit in the sun or just leave it on overnight to disinfect and remove stains.
  • Plastic breadboards Squeeze on lemon juice, rub it in, let it soak if stains are present, then wash as usual.
  • Glass pots Pour in lemon juice, add a generous amount of salt or baking soda and scrub with a brush or sponge. For tough stains, let the mixture set, then scrub.
  • Vinegar

  • Countertops Vinegar is mild enough to be safe for all countertops. Pour on a soft cloth and wipe down the counters. It can be used with water, but if used undiluted it repels bugs. It dries to a spotless finish.
  • Stainless-steel sinks Sprinkle in baking soda, pour in some vinegar and scrub with a cloth. Let it soak on stained areas of the sink, then rinse and buff dry.
  • Coffeepots Pour in undiluted vinegar. If the pot has burned-on stains, add some salt to the vinegar. Scrub with a brush and rinse for a sparkling-clean pot.
  • Air freshener Mix together 2 cups water, 1 tablespoon vinegar and 1 teaspoon baking soda. Store in a labeled spray bottle and spray as needed to remove odors from the air. (Vinegar doesn’t just cover up odors — it eliminates them.)
  • Setting color in clothes Add 1 cup white vinegar to a container of warm water and soak the fabric for 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Suede stains Blot the stain with vinegar on a cloth after first testing in an inconspicuous place on the fabric. The acids in the vinegar are excellent for removing stains. Set the nap with a suede brush or a toothbrush while it’s wet and after it dries.
  • Steam irons Mix a solution of 50 percent vinegar and 50 percent water and pour in the water reservoir. Let the iron steam for 10 to 15 minutes, then turn it off and let it cool for an hour. Turn it back on and heat until it’s steaming. Finally, turn it off and pour out the water. Swab out the steam vents on the plate with a pipe cleaner and iron over an old cloth or towel to remove any remaining water deposits.
  • Perspiration stains Heat white vinegar until it’s warm, pour in a spray bottle and spray on the perspiration stains. Sprinkle the stained area with borax and spray again with vinegar. Work the mixture in, using your thumbs. Let it set for approximately 15 minutes and launder as usual.
  • I shall cover the others in my next post…. try these and see.. I did and they worked a treat.

    Lower your Carbon Footprint

    sources_power_stations.jpg

I recently started a discussion Topic

    ‘Whats your Carbon Footprint?’

Check yours here  or Try this one

My family have for years taken the steps to cut the amount of power we use within our home.
Being in Tasmania where it snows and is snowing tonight even though it Spring we have been conscious of the power use…
Even with the constant heating (electric) we have manage to keep our household usage including car ( we are a small town 230km from the nearest major centre) down to 3.5 tonnes per year.. the average in Australia is 14.8 tonnes per year… what is your carbon footprint and are you trying to change..?
    Btw we only have electricity..

I have been amazed by some of the responses, people asking how is your so low?, what did you do?, what can I do so?, so this post is for anyone who is trying to lower their household energy usage, even if it is to save money on the bills.

The first thing to is make the decision, this sounds easy enough but it does take a conscious effort to change old habits.

We will start with the simple things….Don’t laugh you will be surprised by how many of these things you normally don’t do

Turn lights OFF……. If you are not in a room you don’t need the lights on.

Is it daylight? are there lights on? TURN IT OFF

When a bulb dies change it for the new energy efficent bulbs ( you know the curly funny looking ones) and remember you really don’t need a 100 watt bulb in the bedroom…

Turn off appliances at the plug….

Although it is convenient to have your microwave on standby just waiting to be used it is still using a large amount of energy and you are getting nothing for it….

The TV and DVD Player will work just fine, if you turn it on at the plug when you are watching it and turn it off at the Plug when you are not…

Turning off none essential appliances, instead of leaving them on stanby, you can save yourself upwards of $60 a quarter, on average, on your bill thats a saving of $240 per year at least. Your energy usage will decress very quickly, try it and see.

Open your windows and curtains, let the air flow and the light shine in….

Sounds silly I know! but are your windows and curtains closed and  the air conditioner running?

If it is winter, your fridge and freezer do not need to run on full, you can turn them down!

Composting seems to be one of the things people go on about, sorting your rubbish is a pain I will give you that and what do you do with it when it is sorted…..

Composting for me was annoying, I had no compost bins, no worm farm,  etc

One weekend I went to local tip, and found a few old peice of corrigated iron, and few pieces of wood, came home nailed it together out the back and that is the new composting area…. it took me about an hour, almost everything organic goes in here, paper, cardboard, vege scraps, grass clippings etc, there are plenty of sites to find out….But it was easy to make…four pieces of tin and a few bits of scrap wood and there it is … you can spend as much or as little as you like on this…

Well thats a started, try these few simple things and see how you go..

If you have tips of your own please add them to the comments. I am always interested in new ways to do this…
